PDP Support and Guidance - Promising Programs

The requirement of a Professional Development Plan (PDP) for license renewal is a commitment to the principal of career-long, contextually specific professional development for educators that is connected directly to the Wisconsin Educator Standards. The process of creating and implementing a verifiable PDP for license renewal and professional development is complex and demanding. For this process to be implemented in a manner that will result in professional growth and improved student learning requires significant support of the educator by local school districts, professional organizations and the DPI.

Essential support for educators implementing a PDP consists of but is not limited to: support seminars, trained staff to serve on PDP review teams, mentors trained in the PDP process, guided work time for PDP development, assistance with PDP review team development and where possible, release time for PDP work. There are many school districts and professional organizations that are working to provide this very important support for the participating educators.

The DPI has identified a number of school districts and professional organizations that are doing exemplary work in providing PDP support. Those identified are only a sample of what is being done around the state with this process. Our hope is that these identified school districts/organizations can serve as a model and resource in terms of the type of support that is necessary for the educators to implement PDP's that truly result in professional growth and improved student learning.

To learn more about the PDP support that is being provided by this group of districts/organizations, access the information below. The primary contact person(s) is listed.
