School's Role in Preventing Child Abuse and NeglectJanuary 2012 School employees see and work with school-age children on a daily basis during the school week throughout the school year. This puts these people in position to identify possible child abuse and neglect. All school employees are required to report suspected child abuse and neglect and to obtain training by the Department of Public Instruction on this topic. More information is available at http://www.dpi.wi.gov/sspw/can.html. The Schools Role in Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect was originally created by the Department of Public Instruction in October 2007. The Department of Health and Family Services provided a review of the original publication at that time. This partnership ensures the publications contents are consistent with the guidance both agencies provide to schools and local child welfare agencies.
