Health EducationHealth Education Leadership CertificateAre you a beginning health educator looking for a professional development plan (PDP) that provides the key knowledge and skills needed to improve your emerging practice or hone your skills as a teacher leader? Or are you looking to work more closely with schools in your area? Then the Health Education Leadership Certificate is for you. To receive this certificate you must choose one of two pathways to completion: the Health Coordinator Track or the Health Education Track. When you choose your track there will be three or four professional events you are required to attend and will have an assignment that you must turn in to the coordinator of the program. Each track has a culminating assignment related to health curriculum, instruction, and assessment, or health coordination that you must complete to receive this honor. It will take at least two years to receive this award. We have included the following for your review:
Professional Development OpportunitiesBuilding Skills for Health Literacy Training The face of health education is changing; will you be along for the ride as we move health into the 21st century? The Building Skills for Health Literacy training explores strategies for teaching and assessing for the skills of the health education standards. Participants will explore skill-based units of instruction in health content areas such as tobacco, human sexuality, nutrition, and mental health. Attendees will also get a sneak peek at the new Wisconsin Health Education Standards and explore the role of standards in skill-based instruction and assessment! Health educators, ATODA coordinators, counselors, administrators, and anyone interested in health literacy are invited to attend one of the following three opportunities. Fee: $50-includes morning refreshments, lunch, materials, and one graduate credit. Information Sheet
Aligning Health Education and Literacy Are issues such as teasing, rumors, low physical activity or poor hygiene, impacting the productivity of your elementary-level classroom? There is growing scholarly evidence that social and emotional learning initiatives can have a significant impact on classroom productivity and academic performance. Join us for a session of Aligning Health Education and Literacy. Storybooks will be used to teach health education content and skills in addition to addressing the common core standards for English Language Arts. Using literature to combine health skill development and reading makes better use of limited instruction time and helps districts meet the weekly health education requirement for elementary classrooms. Audience: Elementary classroom teachers, reading specialists, library media specialists, and anyone interested in health literacy at the elementary level.
