Wisconsin Alternate Assessment for Students with Disabilities (WAA-SwD)The Wisconsin Alternate Assessment for Students with Disabilities is the alternate to the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examinations (WKCE) at 3-8th, and 10th grades. The WAA-SwD is designed for the small number of students with disabilities who are unable to meaningfully participate in the WKCE, even with accommodations. Using the WAA-SwD Participation Checklist, an IEP team will determine whether a student in the tested grades will participate in the WKCE, in the WKCE with accommodations, or in the WAA-SwD. The WAA-SwD includes a performance task assessment for the content areas of reading and mathematics for 3-8th and 10th grades, and science for 4th, 8th and 10th grades. These are linked with the state's content standards through the Wisconsin Extended Grade Band Standards approved by the State Superintendent on August 27, 2007. The WAA-SwD yields results separately in reading, mathematics, and science and is designed and implemented in a manner that supports the use of the results as an indicator of adequate yearly progress (AYP). The administration guide and practice items have been included on this page. The WAA-SwD also includes a rating scale for the content areas of Language Arts/Writing and Social Studies for grades 4, 8 and 10. These are based on the Wisconsin Model Content Standards. The administration guide and down-loadable rating scales are included on this page.
