No. 2046, 2002, 292 pp., $42

Planning Curriculum in Science has been designed as a tool to assist science teachers and curriculum directors to plan a comprehensive "science program." The guide embraces Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Science, published by the Department of Public Instruction in 1998, and the National Science Education Standards, published by the National Research Council in 1996.

The guide's authors -- science educators with classroom experience -- challenge each teacher of science to look to the future when developing a science program that allows students to experience the wonder and nature of science. If a program exists in which students are allowed to explore science, then the authors challenge the district and teachers to enhance the program.

Science

No. 8161, 1998, 25 pp., $15

The study of science allows students to experience the richness and excitement of the natural world. As adults, students will face complex questions requiring scientific thinking, reasoning and the ability to make informed decisions. Scientific knowledge will prepare students for the future and help them acquire the skills needed to hold meaningful and productive jobs. The model academic standards for science are one important step in reaching the goal of science literacy for all students.
