Recent News & Important Information

National Student Clearinghouse (NSC)
As part of our first P20 initiative within the Longitudinal Data System (LDS) Project, in late 2009 the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction began pursuing opportunities to include data about the college enrollment and completion of our state’s high school graduates. In May of 2010 we secured a two-year state level contract in Wisconsin with the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), a unique organization that is able to provide postsecondary enrollment and degree verification data from over 3,300 postsecondary institutions around the country. The contract provided the opportunity for each district and high school to take advantage of StudentTracker, a service that provides postsecondary enrollment and completion data on high school graduates, at no cost to the district or school. Our goal was to eventually provide the NSC data to districts and schools through a state reporting tool (the Wisconsin Information System for Education dashboard—WISEdash). In the meantime we also wanted to provide districts and schools with the ability to access this information on their own while we worked through the details.

On April 30, 2012 our two-year state-level contract with the National Student Clearinghouse will end. Unfortunately, due to a significant increase in the cost to maintain the statewide contract, we will not be pursuing an extension to our current contract. Instead, DPI will establish a new contract that will allow us to continue to receive a statewide dataset to incorporate into the data warehouse. Our plan is to include the postsecondary data from the NSC into WISEdash sometime after the initial release. However, there will be an interim period between the end of the current contract and when DPI will be able to provide the postsecondary enrollment reports to districts through WISEdash. We encourage you to take full advantage of the remaining time to submit files before the contract ends to obtain postsecondary data from the NSC for use in your district or school. Please contact us through the help desk if you have any questions or concerns.

SDPR Update
Data has been updated in the School District Performance Report (SDPR), the on-line report published by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Specifically, data has been updated for the following:
  • 2011-12 Achievement Tests data (WKCE & WAA Combined)
The 2010-11 school year data for the remaining tabs are scheduled to be updated by May 1, 2012.

Introducing WISEmaps!
WISEmaps is a new publicly available tool that is part of DPI’s Wisconsin Information System for Education (WISE). WISEmaps provides a useful and compelling way to visualize education data—on a map! In addition, since the data available comes from WINSS, it has already been redacted to protect the privacy of students.
WISEmaps can be accessed on the web at http://wisemaps.dpi.wi.gov.
For more information on WISEmaps, view the WISEmaps Handout.

WISEdash Update January 2012
Introducing WISEdash! DPI's Data & Reporting dashboard is a component of the Wisconsin Information System for Education (WISE). Progress continues to be made on tasks related to the WISEdash implementation. Additional resources have been added to the project team to assist with specific tasks related to implementation. We are working to determine a new date and should have an updated plan and timeline by the end of the month. DPI plans to roll this tool out to districts and schools this year.
